TET
The TET Netherlands route mainly consists of flat, sandy terrain, with a significant amount of sand riding, which can be challenging, especially for riders on larger bikes or with limited experience. Sand requires a confident, fearless approach, and conditions can vary depending on the season—from soft, powdery fesh fesh to moderate quicksand. You'll also encounter sections with dry, hard-packed surfaces, as well as slippery mud in wetter conditions. The route passes through plenty of woodland areas, adding variety to the scenery.
Note: The liaison section from TET Netherlands to the port near Amsterdam is entirely on paved roads. If you have information about legal off-road alternatives, please contact the local Linesman for the Netherlands.
Author Tips & Tricks
- Riding in Sand: Keep your speed up, stay light on the handlebars, and let the bike move beneath you. Dropping tire pressure can also help improve traction.
- Weather Awareness: Be mindful of the season, as patches can range from dry and hard to tricky quicksand, depending on recent rainfall.
- Bike Setup: Use knobby tires for better grip on sand and mud. Adjust tire pressure according to the terrain, lowering it in soft sand for better traction.
- Physical Fitness: Sand riding can be physically demanding, so be prepared for a workout, especially if you're less experienced with sandy terrain.
- Liaison Section: The paved road section near Amsterdam might be less exciting for off-road riders, so if you find any legal off-pavement trails to bypass it, share the information with the Linesman NL.
- Navigation: Carry maps or GPS to ensure you're on legal trails, as off-pavement riding laws are strict in the Netherlands.
