TET
The Southern section of the Trans Euro Trail (TET) Norway starts at the Sweden-Norway border in Øyermoen, offering a ride through dense forests and ancient mountain roads. It passes Lillehammer, the 1994 Winter Olympics host, then heads westward through mountainous terrain to Valdres and Beitostølen. From there, it follows scenic routes via Bygdin, Jotunheimsvegen, and Murudalen to Randsverk. Riders will encounter valleys and peaks, including a climb to Blåhö mountain at 1,618m, which offers stunning views in good weather.
For those looking to explore Norway's famous fjords, a one-day detour takes you to Geirangerfjorden and Trollstigen via tarmac roads. Back on the TET, the trail continues over rugged dirt roads through the beautiful mountain valleys of Grimsdalen and Einunndalen. This stretch offers encounters with free-roaming livestock, and, if lucky, reindeer.
After Grimsbu Touristsenter, the route becomes more challenging with rocky roads and water crossings, eventually leading to the top of Tronfjell at 1,666m. Beware of lingering snow, even in June. The final climb offers breathtaking views and a visit to the resting place of the Indian peace prophet Barald. A detour along Section 2b leads to Røros, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The route ends with a mix of backroads, passing through Österdalen and Bittermarka, before following the Ljöra River to the Swedish border. After some tarmac recovery, riders rejoin Swedish dirt roads for the northern adventure.
