TET
Not many trail ride in Croatia, but we have more and more people joining existing clubs and enjoying time in the countryside.
Hardest section is the locally know "filter" hill or TET named "parts hill", the rest is more or less doable following the TET suggested size of the bike, luggage and load.
Legal white roads/dirt roads in Croatia usually connect areas between cities, valleys or mountains. Some are old trading roads, some were built by the forestry department and some are remnants of the recent war in the 1990's.
Croatia is a diverse country with minor roads connecting the mainland with its mountains and peaks to the coastline and seaside. The TET enters Croatia from the mountainous region bordering Slovenia where you will enjoy high peaks, winding trails and pine forests and leaves for Bosnia near Bosansko grahovo from where there are some gorgeous glacial lakes, reached by small detours.
Wherever you see the ""MINE"" sign on the side of the road, it is STRICTLY forbidden (not to say very, very foolish) to venture from the road.
Croatia was unfortunately part of the wars of the 90’s. MINE signs along the white roads, in the woods, open fields, wood clearings etc MUST be taken very seriously.
There have been reports of people riding in fields where there are known to be mines and we, as a part of the TET project, advise strongly against such risky and stupid behaviour.
Any unnecessary riding in danger areas puts the individual, his/her friends and the emergency services in mortal danger. It also puts in jeopardy the TET routes, possibly leading to their temporary closure and even permanently finishing defined trail use in these areas.
We have provided a link to the map of MINE infected areas that is updated whenever part of the infected area is declared clear of mines.
Riding off the established legal well used tracks in MINE infected areas is very dangerous. After rain and snow mines are prone to shifting in the dirt and any act of bravado can be fatal. In addition, riding on single tracks inside the mine infected areas off the TET route is considered dangerous.
Local people may know a safe path, but because the mines move with the soil you cannot trust or rely on their verbal advice.
Please follow the rules and the designated TET route, so we can all safely enjoy the amazing vistas of the Croatian mountains, plains and coast..
